Maddie was a special little dog.
We fell in love with her at first sight - the moment she popped out of her kennel that her breeder Greg Whittaker was carrying. She was so little and cute! It didn' take long for her to grow though, every morning when we got up, we were sure that she had gotten noticibly larger.
I think it might have been a match made in heaven. Maddie was the perfect dog for our family. Maybe it was because she was our first Berner. Maybe it was because we had her from the time she was so small. Or maybe we were just lucky.
Maddie had a zest for life, and had a special knack for making us feel better whenever we were having a bad day. She knew exactly when to snuggle up and when to start a game. She wasn' big on toys, just her little stuffed Berner that she carried around the yard.
Maddie adored her family and the feeling was mutual. Well, maybe except for the day she rampaged the Little People and ate Farmer Jed.
A senseless car accident took her from our lives way before her time. We think of her and miss her daily.
All the little things that she used to do that made her so special to us . . .
-the special secure spot she found under the couch as a pup, and how she tried to go there even as an adult and would jsut end up pushing the couch all over the place
-following along happily where ever Aspen would lead her
-posing nicely for her photo to keep Sandra happy
- thump her tail on the door as she lay on the doorstep, a signal to those inside that Warren was coming home..
-the way she used to eat the dandelions from our yard
Everyone used to comment how beautiful her coat was. I think this was her secret ingredient for making that coat shine.
-how vigirously she used to dig in the gopher holes trying to catch one
-the way she would sit watching protectively over our little Sawyer in the sleigh or stroller outside
-how happy she used to be to go into the show ring
-how a little dog from the farm entered into the show ring to gain her first points and become Mama Lynn's "puppy with promise"
-how she used to sit in the backseat of the truck with her head sticking up in the front on Warren' lap
-going through the drive though and sharing fries with Warren
-playing hide and seek in the long grass of the field. One could never hide for long from Maddie.
-all of the fun times she has with her best friend Copper at David and Ann Máries house
-how quick and agile she was, bounding down the hill in front of the children as they slid down on their sleighs, and always coming in first place
-trotting along beside Riley on his bike in the driveway
